High Voltage Equipment & Compliance
29th May 2025

As a leading high voltage design, installation, maintenance, and emergency support service provider, we assist companies nationwide in complying with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
One component of these services is the EME Power Systems maintenance package. Being technical and specialist, we understand many organisations find it difficult to comply with their responsibilities by relying solely on in-house staff. The package comprises a bespoke Hv service contract tailored to each site’s requirements. It is not only designed to assist with compliance with the regulations but also to build resilience into the network by carrying out periodic planned maintenance to an agreed timescale, helping to preserve an asset's condition, extend its lifespan, and prevent future faults from occurring.
More information and guidance surrounding organisational responsibilities can be found on the HSE website Electrical Switchgear and Safety
The organisation responsible for a high voltage system, in brief, must ensure that:
- An appropriate management system is implemented
- Keeping of records, including network diagrams, equipment schedules/asset registers and inspection & maintenance reports
- Details of operational restrictions are available (SOPS)
- Recording of any switchgear mods carried out
- Policies and procedures are developed & implemented
- Safety Rules and Safety Documents are adhered to and used
- Persons operating & working on the high voltage system are suitably competent and authorised to do so
- The equipment is regularly inspected and maintained
