Having once been a site requiring a high authorised supply capacity to function, the overall electrical demand had now decreased dramatically, however the original, aged Hv electrical infrastructure was still in place and being utilised.

Stemming from a revision to legislation made in 2019, the UK carried out an impact assessment, concluding that any equipment containing volumes of more than 0.05dm3 (0.005%) PCBs is to be classed as contaminated equipment and required to be removed as soon as possible, but by no later than December 31st, 2025.

While most people took some well deserved time off over Christmas, our EME Power Systems engineers were hard at work replacing failing or ageing assets. With many businesses only shutting down during Christmas, it is often the only time that power can be switched off to allow essential electrical works to be carried out.
Between Friday, December 21st and Saturday, January 4th, EME Power replaced five transformers.
