From Midnight Emergency to Full Power: EME Power Systems in Action

26th October 2026

EME Power Systems recently received a call shortly after midnight from a customer whose site had lost its power supply and urgently required assistance.

After contacting several other companies and finding their calls unanswered or help unavailable, the customer was understandably concerned. With staff due to return the following morning to resume production, restoring power was urgent.

When the customer finally spoke with our on-call Incident Manager, the sense of relief was clear. Being able to speak with someone who understood the urgency and was willing and able to help made an immediate difference.

With a clear understanding of the next day’s workload and the need to remain available for any further emergency calls from existing customers, EME Power Systems carefully coordinated its resources and deployed an engineer to the site overnight. The engineer quickly identified the cause of the outage: a cable fault between the customer's intake HV panel board and the DNO metering substation.

With the start of the working day fast approaching, and production needing to resume as soon as possible, it was essential to find a solution that would minimise disruption. In the absence of maintenance records for the customer’s equipment, it was agreed that temporary generation should be arranged to restore power while a permanent repair was planned. Generators were promptly sourced, delivered and connected, enabling the customer to resume operations with minimal production losses.

With the site operating on temporary generation and the faulty cable measuring less than 20 metres, EME and the customer agreed that the best long-term solution was to replace the cable entirely while carrying out intrusive maintenance on the customer’s equipment.

EME coordinated the deployment of an excavation team, cable jointers, fitters, and a Senior Authorised Person (SAP), along with the necessary liaison with the DNO. The team replaced the cable and maintained the customer’s equipment, completing the work during a planned out-of-hours programme. This restored the site’s normal power supply while avoiding further unnecessary disruption to production.

The maintenance work also identified several existing issues that, if left undetected, could have resulted in further failures and disruption. The customer was pleased to proceed with the necessary remedial works, helping to reduce the risk of future outages while supporting the continued reliability, efficiency and operating life of the electrical network.
